Terms of Service

Welcome to Vagabound Books. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of vagabound.com (the "Site") and any purchase you make through it. By browsing the Site or placing an order, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the Site — though we hope you'll stay.
1. The shop
Vagabound Books ("we," "us," "our") is an independent bookstore based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, selling new, used, and collectible books and related goods online. Our store is hosted on Shopify, which provides the e-commerce platform and checkout.
2. Products and condition
Many of our books are used, out of print, or one-of-a-kind. We describe each item's condition as accurately as we can, including notable wear, markings, or defects. Reasonable signs of a previous life are part of the character of a used book and are not defects. Product photos show the actual item unless noted otherwise. Because stock is limited and often unique, all items are subject to prior sale.
3. Pricing and availability
Prices are listed in U.S. dollars and are subject to change without notice. We do our best to keep listings accurate, but errors happen: if an item is mispriced or listed incorrectly, we reserve the right to cancel the order and refund you in full, even after an order has been confirmed.
4. Orders
When you place an order, you make an offer to buy the item; we accept that offer when we ship it. We may decline or cancel any order — for example, in cases of suspected fraud, pricing errors, or an item having already sold in the shop. If we cancel, any amount you've paid will be refunded in full. Payment is processed securely through Shopify's checkout; we never see or store your full card number.
5. Shipping and risk of loss
We ship to the address you provide at checkout — please double-check it. Delivery estimates are estimates, not guarantees; carriers occasionally wander. Title and risk of loss pass to you when we hand the package to the carrier. If a package goes missing or arrives damaged, contact us and we will work with you and the carrier to make it right.
6. Returns and refunds
If your order arrives damaged, isn't as described, or isn't what you ordered, contact us within 14 days of delivery and we will arrange a return, replacement, or refund. Returned items should come back in the condition they were sent. Gift cards are final sale and are not redeemable for cash except where required by law. Refunds are issued to your original payment method.
7. Accounts
You may create a customer account to speed up checkout and keep addresses on file. You're responsible for keeping your login credentials confidential and for activity under your account. We may suspend accounts that are misused.
8. Intellectual property
The Site's text, design, photographs, logos, and other content (other than the books themselves) belong to Vagabound Books or our licensors and are protected by copyright and other laws. You may not copy, reproduce, or reuse them without our written permission.
9. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Site for any unlawful purpose or to violate any law;
- Attempt to interfere with the Site's security or operation;
- Scrape or harvest data from the Site by automated means without permission;
- Impersonate another person or provide false information when ordering;
- Use the Site in any way that could harm Vagabound, other customers, or third parties.
10. Disclaimers
The Site and its content are provided "as is" and "as available." To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose. We don't warrant that the Site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components.
11. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Vagabound Books will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Site or purchase of products. Our total liability for any claim relating to an order is limited to the amount you paid for the item giving rise to the claim.
12. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising from these Terms or your use of the Site will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.
13. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The current version will always be posted on this page with the date above. Continued use of the Site after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
